Meet the CrossFit Amped Team
Robert Sax, Head Coach and Owner
I'm from Portland, Maine- born and raised. Went to Springfield College in Western Massachusets and got my Bachelors in Science in Exercise Science and have my CrossFit Level One, CrossFit Football, and CrossFit Kids Certification. I moved up to Seattle right after I graduated because I heard that it was a great place to live and two years later, I own a CrossFit gym and am a part of the greatest community of people that I could ever possibly imagine.
I love CrossFit workouts. They're much better and different than anything I've ever done before. Having constantly varied workouts means never getting used to doing the same thing over and over. And having a group of people that always push and encourage you to do new things is by far better than any workout or exercise program that I've been a part of. I've played sports my whole life and CrossFit has made me a better athlete, even now, in my later years. If I had it earlier in my life, I would have been twice the athlete.
Al Veitas, Coach
Through CrossFit I was able to lose a fair amount of weight. I lost about 60 pounds in 5 1/2 months by doing 100% strict Paleo and two WODs a day. I was also in high school, so I had time to do that.
My philosophy has always been that you want to stick to technique. You need good technique before you start putting weight on the bar. Keep you from hurting yourselves, increase longevity, keep you guys out of the nursing home.
Joe Silvestri, Coach
I found CrossFit in November of 2011, about a year after my baseball career at Georgetown University ended. At first, CrossFit was a way for me to regain that competitive edge and desire to always be better that all athletes have. A few months later, I experienced the 2012 CrossFit Games Open and got my butt handed to me. As soon as the last workout was over that year, I made Regionals my goal in 2013. I was fortunate enough to qualify for the Northeast Regionals in 2013 and 2014. Along the way, I got my Level 1 certification and quickly found that I enjoyed helping other people chase their goals just as much as I enjoyed chasing my own. To me, there is no better feeling than seeing someone accomplish something they've never been able to do before. The size of the goal doesn't matter, it's watching hard work and perseverance come to fruition that makes it all worth it. Outside of CrossFit, I'm working towards a masters degree in Education and Special Education.
Jonathan Espinosa, Coach
I started CrossFit several years ago where I was first introduced into a training program called SEALfit. There I learned that I could push mentally and physically past my limits and was hooked immediately. Since then CrossFit has become my PASSION! After obtaining my Level 1 certification, I began coaching for local boxes in the Puget Sound area where I taught the fundamentals and hierarchy of CrossFit.
I am an enthusiastic and positive coach and can be seen encouraging members to go deeper in their squat and push themselves harder towards the finish. I love helping athletes achieve new levels of fitness and I favor movements such as muscle ups, power cleans, and running. When I'm not coaching you can find me exploring new hikes, climbing beautiful mountains, swimming open waters, and cycling exciting roads. I'm always down for new adventures!
My goal and drive is to see everyone that walks into the box put in the effort to produce successful results in their own level of fitness and life. I enjoy seeing a core group of like-minded individuals come together and perform any WOD on the board to the best of their abilities. This is my motivation as a coach and why I love CrossFit!
Coach Niina loves the competitive nature of CrossFit. Having trained and been trained in competitive environment longer than she could remember, Niina has a deep knowledge of the work and dedication it takes to become a great athlete. At age twelve she joined the Freestyle and Collegiate wrestling team. The motivation and support she got from her coaches and teammates through all the adversity she faced as a female wrestler eventually led her to take 2nd at the Freestyle State Tournament in both Washington and Oregon, qualifying her for Nationals. It was through those years she gained an understanding for the importance of good coaching. Outside of Wrestling, Niina grew up training in a variety of sports including Track & Field, Cross Country (*to cut weight for wrestling), Shito-Ryu Karate, Aikido, JKD, Hubud, CSW, Panantukan, Muay Thai, Kali, Jiu-Jitsu. She got her Bachelor's degree at the University of Washington where she played Flanker and Wing on the Women's Rugby team. Niina has always been passionate about helping other athletes reach their full potential. She is one of those coaches who constantly encourages you and believes in you even when you want to give up.
