Meet the Leaders of CrossFit Amped Capitol Hill
I'm from Portland, Maine- born and raised. Went to Springfield College in western Massachusetts and got my Bachelors in Science in Exercise Science and have my CrossFit Level One, CrossFit Football, and CrossFit Kids Certification. I moved up to Seattle right after I graduated because I heard it was a great place to live, and two years later, I owned a CrossFit gym and am a part of the greatest community of people that I could ever possibly imagine.
I love CrossFit workouts. They're much better and different than anything I've ever done before. Having constantly varied workouts means never getting used to doing the same thing over and over. And having a group of people that always push and encourage you to do new things is by far better than any workout or exercise program that I've been a part of. I've played sports my whole life and CrossFit has made me a better athlete, even now, in my later years. If I had it earlier in my life, I would have been twice the athlete.
Meet Coach Luke! Prior to joining the Amped coaching staff, Luke was a CrossFit coach in North Carolina, Hawaii and Afghanistan. In addition to CrossFit, Luke has a background in wrestling and competed through his high school and college career as a D1 athlete.
His coaching style is undoubtedly shaped by his time as an officer in the U.S. Army, but adds a friendly flare to his coaching style. Luke found CrossFit during an overseas deployment and was immediately taken by the high intensity coupled with the complicated and technical aspects of lifting and gymnastics.
Luke is very conscious about the needs of his athletes and always makes sure to assist in injury prevention, good form, technique, and always gives a good workout experience. Luke is currently pursuing his JD at Seattle University and generally coaches our early morning and weekend classes.
Josie Daquanno, Coach
I was lucky to be born and raised in beautiful Monterey, CA. I grew up hiking and playing softball throughout high school. After high school, I took several years off from doing any type of exercise, until I started working at a running store in Carmel, CA.
With the encouragement and help of my coworkers I started running and participating in local 5 and 10k races. In 2010 I competed in my first half marathon. I continued to participate in these events for the next three years, and in 2012 I had the crazy idea of running in The Big Sur International Marathon.
In 2012 I did a little workout at a local box, CrossFit Monterey, called "Fran". It was extremely challenging, but I fell in love with it. And when it was time to start training for my third marathon, I realized that it would interfere with my 7AM CrossFit classes, and decided that I would rather focus on CrossFit.
In 2015 I decided to take the plunge get my CF-L1 and coach. Coaching CrossFit has easily become the most rewarding work I have ever done. I love seeing every one of my athletes grow stronger, mentally and physically, every time they walk into the gym.
